Stiburková, Anna ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis Stereotypes of representation of the Protectorate period in Contemporary Film Creation focuses on the examination of stereotypical depictions of fictional worlds determined by a historical model in film production thematically situated in the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The subject of the research is mainly gender stereotypes of fictional characters and stereotyping of the fictional environment on the example of costumes, masks, period props, musical accompaniment and other elements of narration. The theoretical framework of the work is based primarily on the findings presented in the Introduction to the Semantics of Fictional Worlds by Bohumil Fořt and by Narrative Ways in Czech Literature by Lubomír Doležel. The knowledge of stereotyping theory is drawn from Nick Lacey's Image and Representation: Key Concepts in Media Studies and Pierre Sorlin's Europian Cinemas, Europian Societies 1939-1990. To obtain the necessary information about filmmaking, the publications of Radomír D. Kokeš, The Analysis of Film and David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson, The Art of Film: An Introduction to the Study of Form and Style, were used. The research sample on which this tendency is presented is the Czech war drama Operation Silver A, which depicts the everyday reality of...

The thesis about The Portrayal of Women in Czech Film in Times of Dictatorship is examining the female characters in the movies influenced by nazi and communist propaganda. The main objective is to find out the similarities and differences that are typical for the Czech movies of those times. In the case of the movies influenced by communist propaganda and ideology, this thesis is examining those made in the period between 1948-1956. In order to analyse female characters, 15 movies were chosen for this task after making sure they fulfill the condition of woman playing the main of one of the main roles. The theoretical part of this work is dedicated to the anchoring of the topic, therefore there are sections about propaganda, nazi and communist propaganda, development of Czech cinematography and the role of women in nazi and communist ideology. For the purposes of analyses in practical part of the thesis, I use Jens' Eder model - The Clock of Character.

Pavlisová, Veronika ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This master thesis, entitled Causa Kajínek: media reflection. From reality to movie interpretation deals with the life story of murderer Jiří Kajínek, who was sentenced to life imprisonment. He served his punishment for the murder of an entrepreneur and his bodyguard from Plzeň, which took place in 1993. Kajínek was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1998. His case was then turned into the subject of a movie. The Czech movie called Kajínek, directed by Petr Jákl junior, premiered in cinemas in 2010. The master thesis focuses on this movie and examines published reviews from the Czech press and professional journals. The thesis also analyses the media presentation of the whole case, with special emphasis on the years 1993 (when the murders were committed), 1998 (the life imprisonment sentence for Kajínek) and 2000 (Kajínek's jailbreak from Mírov prison and subsequent capture). The aim of the thesis is to present conclusions about this case, which is still the subject of controversy and polemics about Kajínek's guilt or innocence.

Reception of Slovak Czech film in the Press in the period 1948 - 1969 (with special attention to the image of the Germans)
Racik, Marek ; Klimeš, Ivan (advisor) ; Přádná, Stanislava (referee)
My thesis focuses on the reception of Slovak fiction film in the Czech press from 1948, the year when Slovakia started to produce their own fiction films regularly, until 1969, when the social changes after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops ended the whole period. There was a notion in the Czech society that Czechoslovak film is a Czech film and the thesis focuses on this notion as it was understood by the Czech film critics. My goal is to find and explain, when and how the Czech film journalism started to recognize the differences inside the Czechoslovak film and pointed out the unique identity of the Slovak film in the Czech press. Furthermore, I examine how the Slovak film was rated by Czech film critics in the Czech film scholar press, film magazines and newspapers. The first part of the thesis examines the Czech-Slovak relations in the light of newly established Slovak fiction film. The second part focuses on the complex approach of the Czech film critical journals towards Slovak film, influenced by the state power between the years 1948 - 1960. The third part reflects the appearance of the topics concerning SNP and the so called Slovak New Wave, which lasted during two separate periods between the years 1960 - 1969. The film and politics. Propaganda and political agitation in Czech feature film 1948-1956
Bartošová, Simona ; Pehr, Michal (advisor) ; Polášek, Martin (referee)
Master thesis The film and politics. Propaganda and political agitation in Czech feature film 1948-1956 regards form and range of political, respectively communist ideology in chosen successful Czech feature motion pictures of the above mentioned time period. Investigates how and how far communist ideology influenced the examined films, even e.g. how much open or hidden agitation and propaganda it was. Main question of the thesis is why these films - which are often designated as propagandistic, agitation or at least ideologically tendentious - were so attractive for their viewers at that time. The thesis is theoretically based on supportive literature on history, totalitarianism and Czech film and practically on analysis of particular movies, which are absolutely essential for that time period.
